Modern Slavery Statements (AU)
Get Started with This SkillOverview
Annual drafting of Modern Slavery Statements for the Australian regime under the Modern Slavery Act 2018 (Cth). Covers the seven mandatory criteria (s16), approval by the principal governing body, and submission to the ABF Online Register. For entities with consolidated revenue ≥ A$100m.
Getting started
Add your organisation context (reporting entity name, reporting period, existing policies or prior statement) to the project workspace and activate the Modern Slavery Statements (AU) skill. Use the bundled template and references to draft the seven mandatory criteria (s16), then run mandatory_criteria_check to verify all criteria and board approval before publishing or submitting to the ABF Online Register . Optionally use supply_chain_traceability to scan tier-1 and tier-2 supplier descriptions for high-risk regions or sectors and reflect findings in the risks and actions sections.
Extension tool
- mandatory_criteria_check — Checks the draft statement against the seven mandatory criteria in Modern Slavery Act 2018 (Cth) s16 and approval by the principal governing body (s16(2)). Reports which criteria are present or missing and flags unfilled placeholders.
Example conversation
You: We need to draft our annual modern slavery statement for the Australian reporting period that ended 30 June 2025. We have last year’s statement and an updated supplier list.
Agent: I’ll use the Modern Slavery Statements (AU) skill and the template to structure the statement around the seven mandatory criteria. I’ll pull in the criteria from the reference and add approval by the principal governing body. Once the draft is ready, run mandatory_criteria_check to verify all seven criteria and approval, and optionally supply_chain_traceability to inform the risks and actions sections with high-risk regions or sectors.

## (d) Actions taken to assess and address those risks
We assess and address modern slavery risks through our responsible sourcing programme. New direct suppliers complete a modern-slavery and labour-standards questionnaire; we map responses to risk categories and apply enhanced due diligence or audits in high-risk sectors and geographies. In the reporting period we extended the questionnaire to key tier-2 suppliers in identified high-risk categories. Identified issues are escalated to procurement and sustainability; we document remediation and follow-up.
## (e) Assessment of effectiveness
We measure effectiveness using: (1) percentage of relevant staff completing modern slavery awareness training (target 100% — achieved 97% in 2024/25); (2) number of supplier assessments and audits in high-risk categories (52 assessments, 14 audits in 2024/25); (3) incidents identified and remediated (one incident in the reporting period, remediated with corrective actions). We report these metrics to the board and review them annually.
